Passport and Visa Requirements
Visitors must have a passport that is valid for at least six months after the planned departure date from Hong Kong. Depending on the country, nationals from most countries can enter Hong Kong without a visa for periods of seven days to six months. Please check details about the immigration status here:

Time
Hong Kong is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) + 8 hour.

Banks
9am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday, and some bank offices also open 9am to 12:30pm on Saturdays. Closed on Sundays and public holidays. Automated teller machines (ATMs) can be found in all MTR ( Mass Transit Railway) stations and provide 24-hour cash withdrawal (HK$) facilities.

Climate

Credit Cards
Most Hong Kong shops accept credit cards.

Currency
The legal tender is the Hong Kong dollar (HK$). Coins are bronze-coloured for 10 cents, 20 cents and 50 cents; silver-coloured for HK$1, HK$2, and HK$5; nickel and bronze for HK$10. Notes are issued in HK$10, HK$20, HK$50, HK$100, HK$500, and HK$1,000.

Electricity
The standard electrical voltage in HK is 220 volts AC, 50HZ. The electrical outlets in Hong Kong receive a three flat-pronged plug.

Insurance
Participants are advised to arrange adequate cover for travel and health insurance. The organisers accept no liability for personal injuries or loss or damage to property belonging to Conference participants, either during or as a result of the event.

Health Care
Vaccinations are usually not required. Please check with your local authorities as requirements can change. Individual travel and health insurance is recommended

Transportation
Public transportation via bus, ferry or the MTR train is efficient and user-friendly. The system is easily navigated in English and Chinese. Visitors can buy the Octopus Card, an electronic fare card which is valid on most public transport and many convenience stores.

Restaurants
Hong Kong boasts of a wide variety of Eastern and Western cuisine.

Shopping
Hong Kong is a shopper¡¦s paradise. Visit malls, department stores and designer boutiques and also the smaller open-air markets for traditional arts and crafts. Around Christmas (late December to February), most shops have major discounts.

Tax
Apart from alcohol and tobacco, all goods are tax-free.

Mobile Phones
Most of the mobile phone systems are in operation in Hong Kong ¡Veg GSM 900, PCS 1800, CDMA and WCDMA .

Internet Access

Most hotels have Internet access. There is also free access in coffee shops, large shopping malls, major MTR stations and public libraries. Visitors bringing their own laptops can use the free Wireless Broadband service at the Hong Kong Airport.

Tipping
For most restaurants, a 10 per cent service charge will be included in the bill, and some loose change would be expected. However, this is at your discretion.
